Hiking around Hüttenkopf and the Moselsteig Trail

Osann-Monzel is included as a stage destination on the Moselsteig Trail. The trail leads into the village via Altrichstraße. The fifth stage of the Way of St. James also ends in Osann-Monzel. Along its route, it passes a large-scale species conservation facility and continues to the “Kätzchen” rest area in Osann-Monzel. The Monzeler Hüttenkopf Trail begins in Osann-Monzel in a side valley of the Moselle, through which a bend of the Moselle River flowed millions of years ago. Monzeler Hüttenkopf is 423.4 metres high and the second-highest elevation in the Moselle hills. The Monzel shelter is located on the way to Hüttenkopf; from there, you can overlook the vineyards and the Moselle Valley. From the Hüttenkopf viewpoint, you can see the “Monzeler Kätzchen” and “Osanner Rosenberg” vineyard sites.

Vineyards, Views and Nature Experiences

The Monzeler Kätzchen viewpoint is also reached through the vineyards and offers views as far as Bernkastel-Kues. These different viewpoints give your daily planning different focuses: Hüttenkopf combines elevation and vineyard sites, while Monzeler Kätzchen directs the view along the Moselle landscape as far as Bernkastel-Kues. The Eidechse Osann-Monzel/Kesten information point in the vineyards between Osann-Monzel and Kesten provides information about lizards and adds a natural-history aspect to exploring the landscape.

There is also a specific point of orientation for a cycling trip. The Moselhöhenradweg, the Moselloreley Tour, reaches a rest area with an opportunity to take a break on the outskirts of Monzel. Those who want to combine different types of days can therefore choose between hiking trails, viewpoints and a cycling tour without losing sight of the character of the wine-growing landscape.
