Landscheid: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

On the outskirts of Landscheid, the Eifelsteig briefly follows the village during its 13th stage. Another route is the local circular hiking trail “Mills along the Lieser and Salm”: it connects the valleys of the Lieser and Salm via Himmerod and follows paths along the riverbanks, through woodland, over natural surfaces, and across meadows and fields. Viewpoints are also part of the route.

Nature and Trails

From Himmerod, the route follows the Salm through green countryside and passes historic mills. This means that different landscape features occur alongside one another along the route, without it being limited to a single type of path.

Culture and History

The Burscheid Wall, a Celtic ring rampart, is located within the area of Landscheid. It includes parts of a Celtic hillfort and the remains of a settlement from Roman times. The Roman tomb is an archaeological sandstone structure, probably dating from around 200 AD.

In the centre of Landscheid, the Guild Tree displays the symbols of local merchants and tradespeople. The Peter Zirbes House also offers insights into regional history: the museum is located in the former home of the Eifel poet Peter Zirbes in Niederkail. On display are paintings, drawings, manuscripts, photographs, and books from the estate of Peter Zirbes. The house also preserves original furnishings that document the standard of living of merchants in Niederkail and Landscheid. Visits to the Peter Zirbes House are arranged by appointment.

Experiences

Ponyhofabenteuer in Landscheid-Burg offers pony groups and bookable activities, including observing, grooming, and leading ponies, as well as painting ceramics. In Burg, the Chapel of the Holy Cross replaced an older chapel in 1908; it was consecrated in 1909.

A historic merchant’s cart from 1900 can be entered. This provides an insight into how local merchants once lived.
