Geographical Location
Schöneberg lies on a ridge between the Gräfenbach Valley and the Guldenbach Valley. The village is surrounded by forests, meadows and vineyards: vineyards lie to the south, while the foothills of the Soonwald forest are to the north. Several hiking trails cross the municipal area. Culture and History
The Catholic parish church of the Finding of the Cross is a Neo-Romanesque single-nave church built in 1895 from quarry stone. The former castle grounds at Schloßstraße 5–11 and 8–12 are a listed historic zone and contain six farm complexes dating from the 16th century to the first quarter of the 20th century. The former castle house at Schloßstraße 5 is a building with a half-hipped roof that probably dates from 1539 and was probably rebuilt around 1686; remains of the curtain wall have been preserved.
At Schloßstraße 4 there is a Baroque half-timbered house with a gate structure dating from 1688. At Hauptstraße 23, a late-Classical farm complex from 1843 with half-timbered sections has been preserved. The village fountain near Schloßstraße 3 dates from the 18th or 19th century and was probably restored in the 1920s. A Renaissance portal lintel from 1568 has been preserved at Hauptstraße 37, while a late-Baroque wayside cross from the second half of the 18th century stands near Hauptstraße 52.
Finds from a Roman villa rustica with underfloor heating attest to an ancient Roman presence in Schöneberg.
