Kallstadt: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Kallstadt is located directly on the German Wine Route at the foot of the Haardt. The village's vineyards cover around 270 hectares and include the top Saumagen vineyard site. Kallstadt's i-Punkt is the village's tourist information point on the German Wine Route.
Culture
The St. Salvator Church dates from 1772 and has a 36-metre-high tower. It has a Gothic lower section and a Baroque slate cupola; inside stands an organ by the Saarbrücken organ builder Geib. A historic trough fountain is guarded by the Kallstadt lion. Other key visitor attractions include numerous half-timbered houses and winegrowers' estates. The vine arbors at Saumagenplatz are among the highlights for visitors.
On the outskirts of Kallstadt, the Villa am Weilberg archaeological site uses information panels to explain the former Roman wine-growing estate and displays excavated sarcophagi. Bus route 453 connects the Roman Villa Weilberg between Ungstein and Kallstadt with Kallstadt's Saumagen vineyard site and the wine taverns, then continues towards Felsenberg-Berntal.
Nature
Paths into the Palatinate Forest Nature Park begin in the village. The Kallstadt Wine Hiking Route recommends taking bus route 453 from Bad Dürkheim or Grünstadt to the Kallstadt/Kirche stop. Parking is available at Platz der 100 Weine with a time limit or at the cemetery without a stated time limit.
The route from Kallstadt to Herxheim am Berg begins at Platz der 100 Weine in Kallstadt, follows the upper edge of the Felsenberg and offers views across the edge of the Haardt and the Rhine Plain. The Palatinate Almond Trail passes the entrance to the Berntal/Felsenberg nature reserve before reaching Kallstadt. The Kallstadt–Villa am Weilberg–Bad Dürkheim circular route crosses vineyards on the edge of the Palatinate Forest. It runs mainly on paved, partly natural paths and has no significant climbs. The Saumagen Trail is a gently sloping path from Kallstadt to the Saumagen vineyard site and offers views towards the Rhine Plain and the Odenwald.
Wine
The Kallstadt winegrowers' cooperative offers guided wine tastings, cellar tours and vineyard walks by prior arrangement. Locally, the Kallstadt Saumagen vineyard site is also associated with a culinary Saumagen specialty. The Saumagenkerwe is an annual wine festival in Kallstadt, held at the beginning of September.
