Helmenzen: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Cycling and Nature
Helmenzen is the starting point for the 23 km cycle tour “From Valley to Valley”: it begins at the hiking car park near the museum barn. Anyone looking to rent a holiday apartment in Helmenzen can continue their accommodation search afterwards.
The tour initially leads through woodland and meadows down into the Ölfen stream valley. Its many small valleys give the landscape a particularly varied character. Near Kettenhausen, the return route passes through the “Monkey Swing”, a deep, small road valley whose passage is compared to the swaying of a ship. The tour returns to Helmenzen via the stream valleys of Busenhausen and Kettenhausen.
Culture and History
Helmenzen was first mentioned in writing in 1459. Historically, the village belonged to the parish of Altenkirchen and the County of Sayn; the court of the Altenkirchen district was also located here.
The Helmenzen Museum Barn is a local history museum that collects regional tools and household items. It can be reached by public bus and via a short footpath. Group visits can be arranged at any time.
On Site
The Westerwälder Hof country inn in Helmenzen offers regional cuisine with fresh ingredients from the surrounding area; free parking is available there at the Helmenzen starting point of the tour.
