Fürthen lies directly on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia, while the Sieg River curves around the town in a wide bend. History

Fürthen has a documented history of borders: the Siegburg Agreement of 1604 and a supplementary treaty of 1607 regulated disputed territorial rights. The Bellingerbach formed the historic border between Berg and Sayn and is also the present-day state border between Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The divided settlement is called Opperzau in Windeck on the North Rhine-Westphalian side, and Oppertsau in Fürthen on the Rhineland-Palatinate side.

The Wäller Tour Raiffeisen’s Sunday Stroll is a circular route approximately 7 kilometers long and reaches the Siegbogen in Fürthen.

Cycling

The Sieg Cycle Path runs through Fürthen and continues toward Windeck-Au and Hamm/Sieg. The Sieg Cycle Path is approximately 64 kilometers long.

The Hammer Mountain and Valley Tour is a 42.8-kilometer circular cycling route. It passes through Opsen and the Siegbogen in Opperzau and follows the Bellingerbach Valley toward Wäldchen.
