Hiking

The Druidenstein circular hiking trail climbs to the 517-metre-high summit of the Windhahn and continues to the Druidenstein, a natural monument at around 450 metres above sea level that is described as being between 1 and 25 million years old.

Nature

The 19-metre-high Ottoturm tower stands on the 405-metre-high Kahlberg. From there, views extend across the Sieg Valley, Freusburg and the Westerwald. The 600-metre-long Historic Way of the Cross leads from Herkersdorf to the Druidenstein and comprises 14 grottoes dating from the 1920s.

The Sieg Nature Region, which stretches between Siegburg and Mudersbach, is characterised by wooded ridges and valleys, half-timbered villages, churches, monasteries, castles and museums.

Culture

The Museum of the Town of Kirchen is located at Wiesenstraße 7. The Otto Pfeiffer Museum is located in Freusburg at Burgstraße 11. Freusburg is described as a more than 1,000-year-old castle above the Sieg Valley.

Getting There

Kirchen railway station is directly connected to the Cologne–Au–Siegen railway line, served, among others, by the RE9 Rhein-Sieg-Express. Bus routes 290, 291 and 294 to 296 serve Kirchen.
