Kürten is located in the Bergisches Land, approximately 24 kilometres northeast of Cologne as the crow flies. The municipality belongs to the Bergisches Land Nature Park. The Kürtener Sülz, the northern headstream of the Sülz, flows through the municipal area. Hämmerich, northwest of Herrscherthal, is Kürten’s highest elevation at 292 metres.
