Church and Natural Monument

The Early Gothic church in Biendorf was built from fieldstone and brick around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. It has a late Renaissance pulpit dating from 1665 and a very old baptismal font made of red granite, about one metre in diameter. Two kneeling lime trees stand in front of the church and are considered a rarely seen natural monument. The architecture, historic furnishings and striking shape of the lime trees make this a cultural highlight for anyone interested in church and local history.

The Hellbach winds through Westenbrügge and once supplied water to the manor house’s moat. The architecture, park and watercourse offer different ways to explore the history of the place.

Büttelkow has a renovated manor house set in a park with a small lake that once surrounded an old moated castle. An art trail passes the manor house, or “castle,” crosses the open fields and the woodland settlement, and loops back. In Gersdorf, the manor house is associated with the birth of the Prussian general Count von Moltke: he was born there. The manor houses and art trail therefore offer different ways to explore architectural and local history within the municipality.

Activities and Choosing a Location

Children can take riding lessons in Wischuer. The fitness area and exercise garden offer a gentle workout using their equipment. If riding lessons are important to your plans, check availability in advance. A geocaching project covers Biendorf and neighbouring municipalities in the Neubukow-Salzhaff administrative district. Stops are marked along the seven routes, and the questions and puzzles relate to the region.

For getting your bearings when travelling to the municipality, Sandhagen is a useful reference point: the district is connected to the B 105 and has a railway station on the Wismar–Rostock line.
