Moorland Experiences and Water Activities

At the NIZ Goldenstedt Nature Conservation and Information Centre, also known as the “Haus im Moor” (House in the Moor), visitors can take an approximately one-and-a-half-hour ride on a moor railway with an expert guide. The approximate duration is a useful guide for planning your day; check operating days before travelling. The NIZ also has a barefoot trail. This means you can choose between a guided ride and another moorland activity at the same centre.

If you would rather get active on the water, the municipality of Goldenstedt has three canoe launch and landing points. Hartensberg Lake also has an 18-hole mini golf course. It was newly built in spring 2010 and is located at Tiefer Weg 20. The Joba Beach Club, a playground and a kiosk are right next door. Play and Exercise in the Multi-Generational Park

The multi-generational park has an accessible network of paths. For outdoor exercise, there are several fitness stations; the playground has a dedicated area for toddlers, climbing equipment for older children, trampolines and swings. There are also chess and Nine Men's Morris, table tennis tables, a boules court and a basketball court. If you are planning a visit with children of different ages, you can consider the play facilities according to their designated age ranges; the park also offers sports and games for other interests.

At the park entrance, the wind-driven artwork “Moving Birds” evokes flying cranes. They stop to rest in Goldenstedt Moor every year from October to February. The artwork thus reflects a seasonal nature theme, while the park’s other facilities focus on play and exercise.

Ringfort History, Architecture and Classic Cars

Along the “Burgweg” trail, individuals, groups and school classes can explore the history of the Arkeburg ringfort. The listed historic complex of Bredemeyers Hof is an architectural highlight. It includes a boiler house dating from 1881 with an 18-metre-high chimney.

The Amberger Oldtimerhof displays classic cars, trucks and tractors, as well as a distinctive “Hökerwagen” (hawker's cart). Visits are possible by prior arrangement. These three places of interest appeal to different interests: the history of a ringfort, a historic boiler house or vehicles from various categories. When planning a visit to the Oldtimerhof, it is particularly important to make arrangements in advance.

Tours in Vechta District

Vechta District offers further options for days spent hiking and cycling in the region. It has 31 hiking routes through floodplain and moorland landscapes, forests and hills, as well as to historic sights and natural monuments. The routes are marked according to the German Hiking Association’s quality criteria and have uniform signposting. The cycling network covers around 870 kilometres and includes 16 themed cycling routes, among them “Discovering Aristocratic Residences” and “Art, Culture and Nature”.
