Nature

Heidesee offers recreational opportunities for families, swimmers, surfers and sunbathers. The lake has clear water, white sandy beaches and densely wooded sections along its shores. There are also supervised bathing facilities, refreshment stands and sanitary facilities.

The Heidesee Route is a nature walk from Heidesee through fields and small wooded areas. It follows the Cardinal's Way and passes a forest chapel.

Culture and History

The parish church of St. Peter and Paul in the center of Holdorf is a neo-Gothic church consecrated in 1858. St. Peter and Paul contains an altar cross whose corpus dates from the 16th century and comes from the workshop of an artist from Osnabrück.

Dersaburg is a wooded hillfort on a 107-meter-high hill between Damme and Holdorf. In historical times, it monitored plank paths through the moor. Gut Ihorst comprises a listed building dating from 1680 and a Baroque chapel from 1737. The chapel is surrounded by a moat and is located in a wooded area on the road from Holdorf to Steinfeld. Gut Ihorst has been owned by the von Spee family since 1882; the Baroque chapel was extensively restored in 1975.

Hof zu Amtern has been documented since as early as 1240 and is characterized by elaborate half-timbered constructions. Holdorf's Old Railway Station dates from 1899 and has information boards about the history of the station.

Paths and Landscape

The Mühlenbach Nature Trail, also known as the Silver Ribbon, runs from Holdorf toward Damme along a former ore-transport railway line and includes five interactive stations as well as observation platforms. The Baum & Natur circular trail at the Holdorf waterworks explores the relationship between forests and water quality and includes an avenue of fruit trees as well as an avenue of Trees of the Year. The Dersa Route is a cycling tour in and around Holdorf and begins at the town hall.

Local Life

An inclusive playground is located directly next to the farm in Bürgerpark. The farm in Bürgerpark can be reached via two barrier-free paths and has approximately 60 bicycle parking spaces. In Bürgerpark, a relocated historic farm, the Bürgerhaus and the coach house form a new home for the Holdorf local history association. The farm and the amphitheater continuously provide space for music, dance and theater. Holdorf also has an indoor swimming pool.
