In the Diekholzen area, the Way of St. James and the Rennstieg partly share the same route; both are signposted with directional signs and a scallop shell. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Diekholzen can then continue their search for accommodation.
The Tosmarberg is located in Söhre, a village within Diekholzen. The Warm Beuster and the Cold Beuster join within Diekholzen to form a stream. A footpath equipped with benches follows the Beuster through large parts of Diekholzen and is ideal for walking.
The Schwarze Heide features extensive heather on the ridge; individual oak and birch trees stand along the edges. It lies within a nature reserve established to preserve this type of landscape. In good weather, the summit of the Tosmarberg offers views far into the distance.
Sundern is the starting point for several circular hiking trails. One hiking route leads from Diekholzen via Ziegenberghoch to Tosmar and continues towards Bad Salzdetfurth. Another hiking route leads from the Sundern area of Diekholzen via HammersteinsHütte towards Petze. A third runs from the former industrial site in Diekholzen via Mathildenhall towards Haus Escherde.
The Hildesheimer Wald hiking badge links the trails and sights of Diekholzen with those of Barienrode, Egenstedt and Söhre. In Diekholzen, the Rennstieg runs from the lung clinic to the western edge of the settlement and continues towards Nienstedt.
Diekholzen has a well-developed network of cycle paths. An 18-kilometre cycling route along the former Kalibahn railway line connects the Innerste and Leine rivers. In Diekholzen, the former railway line crosses the state road via a railway bridge and leads across the former Hildesia mine site into the Hildesheim Forest.
Diekholzen has a pilgrims' hostel with four beds, a washroom with a shower and toilet, and a kitchenette. Bus route 43 provides Diekholzen with a connection to the urban transport network. A guestbook for hikers is available at the summit cross on the Tosmarberg.
