Hagermarsch: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

History

Hilgenriedersiel combines a history of drainage sluices with a bathing area that is still available for use. A sluice has been documented there since 1576; the old dyke from 1576 became a Schlafdeich, meaning a resting dyke on the landward side.

Historically, Hilgenriedersiel was important for crossings and transport to the North Sea island of Norderney. Hilgenriedersiel is a former sluice settlement; the sluice was closed in 1925. Land reclamation shifted the former Hagermarsch Bay inland.
