National Park Access and Trails near Harbshausen

A special option is the wheelchair-accessible route leading from the Himmelsbreite National Park entrance to the Hagenstein viewpoint. The viewpoint is 1.2 km from the entrance. This allows you to combine a specific route with a viewpoint destination without having to commit to one of the longer trails straight away.

Several trails with different routes are available for longer tours. The approximately 5.5 km H 1 trail leads from Himmelsbreite through the wildlife enclosure to Hagenstein, down to Kirchlotheim and back via the Schulpfad trail. The approximately 5 km H 3 trail runs from Himmelsbreite, turning left before the wildlife enclosure through the Breitenbach Valley to the lake and back via the lakeside road.

The approximately 7 km H 4 trail initially follows the Edersee lakeside road towards Asel, turns right at a sand pit, leads through the ditch to Bettelkopf and then returns. The approximately 4.5 km H 5 trail follows the Schulpfad trail to the Ederpfad trail and returns via the road between Herzhausen and Harbshausen. At approximately 4.5 km, H 5 is the shortest of the four trails mentioned, while H 4 is the longest at approximately 7 km. This allows you to take the trail length into account when planning your day without reducing the tours to a uniform experience.

Water, Animals and Regional History

The area around Harbshausen offers opportunities for swimming and surfing on Lake Edersee. This adds a different kind of vacation day to the trails in the national park: Instead of a route through the Breitenbach Valley or along the Edersee lakeside road, the lake can take center stage.

In addition, a picnic on the alpaca pasture can be booked by appointment and includes a short introduction at the farm. Afterwards, the alpacas can be fed mineral feed.

Another destination is the chapel in Harbshausen. It was built in 1570. Due to its dilapidated condition, it was completely rebuilt from 1720, completed in 1721 and finished with its interior furnishings in 1726. The chapel’s history of construction makes it a suitable destination for anyone who wants to combine days in nature with a historical impression.

Below Harbshausen, in the Breitenbach Valley on the shore of Lake Edersee, there is also the Edersee Sports, Nature and Adventure Camp, group accommodation for young people. The camp includes an indoor climbing wall, canoes, mountain bikes and a large all-weather sports field. These facilities show another side of the area, without allowing any characteristics of other accommodations to be inferred from them.
