Culture and History
Weinbach was first documented in 1344 under the name Wynbach.
The present-day church was built in 1728 and preserves a large part of the early Gothic choir of its predecessor.
In the early modern period, the village was fortified with fences, ditches, and two gates. The surviving name Pfortengasse recalls one of these gate structures.
A mill between Freienfels and Weinbach is recorded as early as 1459; a nearby pond was created in the mid-17th century as a court trout pond for the Nassau-Weilburg court.
Weinbach remained agricultural in character until the 20th century; slate mining as well as manganese and iron ore extraction also provided local sources of income.
The central swimming pool was built in 1963 and is described as a significant enhancement to the municipality’s recreational value. For travelers who would like to include swimming in their stay, this is a suitable local point of reference.
