History

Königsberg developed around a castle that was built around 1180 on the “Königsweinberg.” The town was first mentioned in 1234, received market rights in 1333 and full town rights in 1358.

Historic sights include the old town, the castle ruins on the Schlossberg, St. Mary's Church with the castle's watchtower behind it, the market square and the Salt Market, as well as a Roland statue dating from 1605.
