Oberdachstetten: Hiking, Nature and History

Hiking between the source of the Rezat and circular trails

The source of the Rezat lies within the municipality, on the hiking trail from Oberdachstetten to Marktbergel. Teufelsgraben and the so-called “Spinnerin” are also sights along the hiking trail from Oberdachstetten to Westheim. A grave monument in the shape of a Romanesque cross commemorates the Spinnerin. These places can serve as inspiration for a hike; the circular trails also offer clearly described routes to choose from.

The moderately difficult “Storch” circular trail passes through Urphertshofen on its way back to Oberdachstetten. Its 6.7 kilometres and 160 metres of elevation gain provide a practical guide for planning the day. The “Roter Milan” is also moderately difficult, but longer, at 7.4 kilometres: it passes through Waldeslust, the Spinnerin, the burial mound, the source of the Rezat and the quarry, before returning to the starting point via Waldeslust. Those who want to connect different stops on one loop will find a different route here than on the “Storch”.

Other moderately difficult options are the 9.5-kilometre “Eichblatt” circular trail via Buchenberg, the hunting lodge and Spielberg, and the 13.8-kilometre “Bachstelze”. This trail passes through Spielberg, along the B 13 south of Hohenau and through Mitteldachstetten on its way back to Oberdachstetten. The “Steinpilz” circular trail, by contrast, is 7.2 kilometres long and rated easy; it starts and ends in Anfelden, passing through Landsknecht and the Schwedenkreuz. The distance, route and difficulty level can help you choose a suitable hiking idea for a day out together.

Churches and parish fair

Visitors interested in cultural history will also find several specific places to discover. St. Bartholomew’s Church in Oberdachstetten was built between 1837 and 1844 in the Munich Classicist style. The church in Berglein is a fortified church; medieval sections of wall have been preserved in the choir tower and adjoining sacristy. The church in Mitteldachstetten was first mentioned in a document in 1122. Its choir tower dates from the late 14th century and has loopholes.

A recurring tradition in the annual calendar is the parish fair: it takes place in Oberdachstetten every year on the third Sunday in October. The traditional parish fair procession ends with the “Pariser Eilrad”. Visitors who plan their stay to coincide with this date can experience a special local custom alongside the hiking and nature attractions.

Water, nature and active days

The municipal swimming area offers a refreshing dip, a sunbathing lawn and a volleyball court. Sanitary facilities are also available. So, alongside hiking, there is another kind of break to choose from: time by the water, sunbathing or a game of volleyball. Part of the “Weiherboden bei Anfelden” nature reserve comprises important wetland habitats for specific animal and plant species. These are maintained through extensive land management.

Cyclists will also find routes to explore: the Bibert Valley Cycle Route passes through Oberdachstetten and can be connected to the Castle Road Cycle Route and the Zenn Valley Cycle Route through Romantic Franconia. The Aisch Valley Cycle Route, which comes from Bamberg, also passes through the municipality. Oberdachstetten station can serve as a starting point for journeys to and from the area as well as for many day trips; connections to and from Nuremberg and Würzburg are among the options mentioned.
