Geslau’s Trails and Their Themes

The Karrach Trail is one of the municipality of Geslau’s six newly organised circular trails. The Karrach Trail is 4.1 km long and runs from Gunzendorf towards the Karrach Mill before returning to the starting point. One section follows the Way of St. James. Karrach Mill, called “Koari” in the local dialect, gives the trail its name.

Beside Karrach Mill are the large Karrach Lake and the smaller, somewhat hidden Karrach Lake. The smaller lake was already mentioned in 1418. This adds two named lakes and an early historical reference to the information about the circular trail. When choosing the Karrach Trail, you can therefore take both its route layout and its connection to the mill into account when planning your day.

The Bat Trail is 4.4 km long; five stations provide information about local features. It passes the protected bat cellar, which was once a beer and ice cellar belonging to an old inn in Geslau. In terms of length, the Bat Trail is 0.3 km longer than the Karrach Trail. Their described themes also differ: the Karrach Trail focuses on the circular route from Gunzendorf and Karrach Mill, while the Bat Trail focuses on the cellar and its stations.

The short, accessible Church Trail in Geslau offers a different kind of route. Plenty of benches invite you to sit and meditate. If a short walk with places to sit is important to you, it offers a different experience from the two longer trails. The European Watershed Trail also passes through Geslau; in contrast, the Karrach Trail is described as a specific circular route with a start and return point.

Geslau’s leisure options include a bathing pond, a heated outdoor swimming pool in the woods and an indoor swimming pool.
