A Garden and a Tradition in Ornbau

The Bible Garden in Ornbau is located outside the town walls. A team of volunteers created it in 2011 with support from the town of Ornbau. It offers a cultural point of interest that differs from the sporting opportunities provided by the routes.

A recurring custom marks the period before Easter: every year, on the Saturday before Palm Sunday, an Easter fountain is decorated in front of Ornbau parish church. If you plan your stay around this date, you can combine a visit with an insight into local tradition.

Swimming Area and Cycling Routes

A swimming area is located on the Altmühl feeder canal in Gern, a district of Ornbau. This adds an option by the water to cycling and cultural attractions. Together with the various cycling routes, it opens up several ideas for your holiday, so every day need not be the same.

Ornbau is part of the 36-kilometre “Mönchswaldfüchse” Extra Route. The circular route passes through Merkendorf, Mitteleschenbach, Ornbau, Weidenbach and Wolframs-Eschenbach and is designed to take two to three days. Another option is Route 1 of the three “Meister (r)Ade(l)bar” circular cycling routes, marked in green. Developed by the LBV Altmühlsee Environmental Education Centre, these routes lead to stork nests in the central Altmühl Valley. Information boards and interactive features provide facts about the white stork. This route therefore focuses on nature observation as well as physical activity.

The 38-kilometre Altmühlsee Cycle Route No. 8 is also a circular route and starts in Ornbau. It runs via Weidenbach, Merkendorf, Wolframs-Eschenbach and Mitteleschenbach to Muhr am See. Compared with the “Mönchswaldfüchse”, which is designed to take two to three days, the stated distance here gives you a direct basis for choosing your cycling tour.

More Culture and Nature in the Ansbach Destination

The Franconia Literature Trail is a 2.2-kilometre accessible circular route around the town fortifications of Wolframs-Eschenbach. It displays more than 4,000 exhibits, including historic scales and their weights, cubits and measuring sticks, as well as vessels used to measure grain. The route leads to various sites in Neuendettelsau and to the churches in Reuth and Wernsbach; each site has an information board. For nature lovers, Frankenhöhe Nature Park provides information about hiking and cycling trails and ranger tours. It covers around 1,100 square kilometres and is the source region of the Altmühl, Fränkische Rezat and Zenn rivers.
