Culture and tradition in Vaterstetten

St. Pankratius is the oldest church in the municipality of Vaterstetten and was first mentioned in 1186. The nave is particularly striking: it was built from tuff blocks in the late Romanesque style. St. Pankratius can be visited during the day. A grille allows the church interior to be closed off. This makes it possible to include a cultural visit in your daily plans without needing to attend a specific event.

One of the recurring traditions is the Vaterstetten midsummer bonfire. The Vaterstetten fire brigade holds the event every year in June. June is the relevant time to visit for this tradition. The Vaterstetten Town Hall Concerts, which have enriched the municipality’s cultural life for over 40 years, offer another cultural highlight. The church, concert series and traditional event appeal to different interests: you can discover historic architecture as well as an established part of community life.

Leisure activities and active experiences

Those looking for exercise and fun activities will find several different options in Vaterstetten. Edi's Spielewelt is a mini-golf venue near the Vaterstetten sports ground. The Vaterstetten equestrian centre offers riding lessons. Depending on your interests, you can include mini golf or a riding lesson in your stay; no information about duration or participation requirements is implied.

The Vaterstetten climbing forest has over 110 elements across 13 varied courses. Visitors can take on a range of climbing courses there. Traditional archery is also taught in small groups under professional instruction at the Münchner Wald Kletterwald Vaterstetten. Climbing and archery are different active experiences; which one suits your trip depends on what you would like to focus on.

Cycling and routes

Vaterstetten is mostly flat, with well-developed cycling routes and traffic-calmed streets that make cycling easier as a leisure activity. Cyclists have safe options on dedicated cycle paths as well as shared pedestrian and cycle paths. These include the northern section of Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Straße and connecting roads to Weißenfeld, Parsdorf and Hergolding. This information can help you get your bearings if you are considering cycling as part of your stay: the types of paths and specific road sections provide a useful guide.

The Climate Forest Discovery Trail is another feature of the municipality. It is a joint project of the Bavarian State Forestry Administration, the Municipality of Vaterstetten and private forest owners. The municipality is responsible for the paths, traffic safety and future maintenance. The project thus adds a connection to forests and the climate to the range of cultural and active experiences.
