The municipality of Steinhöring is home to a Bronze Age settlement and a Celtic settlement in the Ebrach Valley.

From the 16th century onward, Steinhöring was the location of an important post station connected to the historic Brussels–Vienna postal route.

Steinhöring is located in the Munich region, in the Alpine foothills and in the Ebrach Valley southeast of the Ebersberg Forest.

The Ebrach River flows through Steinhöring mostly from west to east. The municipality also includes three lakes: Berger See, the artificially created Maximiliansee, and an unnamed lake on the grounds of the Steinhöring facility network.

Hiking and Cycling

A moderately difficult 10.6-kilometre hiking route leads from Steinhöring via the Forest and Environment Museum to Ebersberg.

The cycling routes Seenzauber am Alpenrand Ost and Isar-Inn-Radweg are part of the wider Munich–Ingolstadt route network.
