Outdoor activities and green spaces in Poing

The fitness trail has been open to sports enthusiasts of all ages since 2017. Its equipment can be used around the clock for endurance or strength training. Since the beginning of July 2026, an inclusive upper-body trainer has also been available on Gebrüder-Grimm-Straße. The facilities thus range from workout equipment to a specifically designated addition for upper-body training.

A range of activities come together at Bergfeldsee in northern Poing: there is a volleyball court, an outdoor table-tennis table, and a large sand and water play area. This makes the lake a different kind of destination from the fitness trail, which focuses on endurance and strength training. Those who like to plan varied holiday days will find different opportunities here for exercise and play.

Route 6 passes through Bergfeldpark to the Monopteros, continues to the sound stone and the Roman excavations, and also takes in Bergfeldsee. This route links several named stops with a view of the lake. Reuterpark in southern Poing offers a different focus: this recreation area, covering around two hectares, has a tree trail that provides information about the range of species.

Roman traces and church art

In development area 4, north of Kirchheimer Allee, a reconstructed Roman gate, a protective palisade, a pottery kiln, and a well offer a glimpse of the period from the 1st to the 4th century AD. These different features bring the historical setting to life: alongside the gate and palisade, the pottery kiln and well represent other aspects of the development area. Roman country estates are also located in Bergfeldpark, near a pottery kiln at Sudetenstraße 75.

The Parish Church of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer was consecrated in 2018. It is the youngest church in the Archdiocese and the only one under the patronage of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer. Visitors are interested in its architecture and liturgical furnishings by Ulrich Rückriem, including the large crucifix by Josef Henselmann. The church thus combines a recent construction date with a clearly defined artistic focus.

The Old Parish Church of St. Michael offers a different glimpse into the past and is one of Poing’s two protected historic buildings. Its Gothic tower dates back to Roman times. After part of the building collapsed, the church was completely rebuilt and extended in 1954. In Grub, the small St. Ulrich’s Chapel still stands on the site of a medieval Church of St. Ulrich. Together, these churches represent different historical and architectural connections without telling the story of the same period.

This contrast can help you choose a holiday apartment: Poing combines active green spaces with Roman history and church art. Consider whether outdoor activities or cultural history should shape your holiday days more, and base your search on that focus.
