St. Martin and the Oak Artwork
St. Martin Church in Buch am Buchrain is a Baroque church with a late Gothic core. In 1760, Johan Baptist Lethner substantially remodelled it in the Rococo style. St. Martin is a hall church with a recessed, three-sided chancel. To the south stands a tower with a tiered upper section and a profiled onion dome.
As a characteristic example of a uniformly preserved Rococo country church, St. Martin is considered significant to art and art history. The oak artwork “Over 1,200 Years of Buch” stands in front of the parish church. It was created by sculptor Florian Brunner at the initiative of the woodcarving symposium. Here, the history of church architecture and an artwork with its own story of creation meet in one place.
Forest Trails, Valley Views and a Destination on the Hammerbach
The woodland around Buch am Buchrain invites you to go for walks in every season. One specific circular route is the approximately six-kilometre B 2 hiking trail, “To Richinger Berg,” near Buch am Buchrain. It runs along the edge of the forest and offers views of the Kaltenbach Valley. The B 3 “Around Kaltenbach” and B 5 “To Müllnerbrünnel” trails are also listed for Buch am Buchrain. Another destination is the fish ladder on the Hammerbach.
Cycling Through Buch am Buchrain
The “Through the Erding Countryside” cycle route passes through Buch am Buchrain. Its route follows the Middle Isar Canal, the Sempt and the Schwillach before continuing through Buch. The route becomes somewhat more challenging on the way to Buch am Buchrain because it crosses the Isen headwaters area. The routes therefore have different highlights: the B 2 focuses on the forest edge and views of the Kaltenbach Valley, while the cycling route features the waterways mentioned above and the Isen headwaters area. If you are planning a cycling trip, it is worth checking the current route conditions.
In Erding: Farmhouse Museum, Market and Town Tower
In Erding, the Erding Farmhouse Museum comprises 15 historic buildings that were relocated there from the district of Erding. It showcases the historical agricultural economy and way of life of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The farmers’ market on the museum grounds is open every Friday from 12:00 to 16:30. Farmers from the district of Erding offer regional and seasonal goods and food there; market hours may change.
The town tower tour offers a different perspective on Erding: after 163 steps, it reaches a height of 35 metres. From there, the view stretches across Erding and the surrounding area as far as Munich, and in föhn conditions, all the way to the Alpine panorama. In Erding, you can choose between distinct experiences: rural history, regional market offerings and sweeping views over the town.
