Hiking Trail 3 begins in Isen town centre. It crosses a footbridge over the Mühlbach and passes trout ponds on its way back to the Isen River. Hiking Trail 4 starts in the town centre and heads towards Dorfen, passing the “Meindlvilla” leisure park, crossing the Schinderbach and going past the brickworks to Eck. The two descriptions have different points of focus: Trail 3 highlights waterways and ponds, while Trail 4 follows named landmarks all the way to its destination, Eck.
If you choose a tour based on its waypoints, you will find two different options here: one route featuring the Mühlbach, trout ponds and Isen, and another heading towards Dorfen via the park, a stream crossing and the brickworks. These features can help you plan your day around what interests you most along the way. Hiking Trail 1 adds religious memorial sites and a wayside shrine in the forest to the options.
Meindlvilla: Park and leisure activities
The “Meindlvilla” leisure park is a small park surrounding an old villa. Its facilities include a Kneipp pool, a children’s playground, a table tennis table, a Bavarian curling lane, a duck pond and benches. The playground is a specific feature to consider when planning with children; the other facilities cater to a range of leisure interests. The variety of amenities makes the park a destination in its own right, alongside the hiking trails. Hiking Trail 4 passes the leisure park.
Church history and religious roadside shrines
The parish church of St. Zeno in Isen is one of the oldest churches in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. Its foundation is thought to date to the time of Bishop Ermbert (739–747). This cautious dating and its place in a long ecclesiastical history give St. Zeno a special place among the area’s cultural attractions.
Hiking Trail 1 also passes religious landmarks: it runs by the St. Joseph’s Chapel with its Lourdes Grotto. In the forest, at a junction with a paved road, there is also a wayside shrine featuring Saint Sebastian. From there, a shortcut branches off towards Zieglstadl and Isen. More cultural and historical attractions in the wider Erding destination
In the wider Erding destination, the Erding Farmhouse Museum offers a focus of its own: it comprises 15 historic buildings relocated there from the district of Erding and presents the traditional rural economy and way of life of the 19th and early 20th centuries. This offers a different cultural and historical perspective from the parish church of St. Zeno in Isen. The former home and studio of Franz Xaver Stahl contains historic furniture. The Biedermeier house dates from around 1840; the former studio has remained unchanged since his death.
The city tower tour offers another perspective on Erding: after climbing 163 steps, you reach a height of 35 metres. From there, the view extends across Erding and the surrounding area as far as Munich; in foehn conditions, the Alpine panorama comes into view as well. The view therefore explicitly depends on the weather.
