Chiemsee – Islands, Birdlife and Water Sports

At just under 80 km², Lake Chiemsee is the largest lake located entirely within the Free State of Bavaria. Fishing and pottery are also part of the island’s character: six families on Fraueninsel still make their living from fishing, and the island has traditional pottery workshops. For travellers interested in art, crafts or the monastery’s history, Fraueninsel adds its own cultural interests to the choice of destinations. Getting around by bike or on the water

The Lake Chiemsee Cycle Route follows a circular route of around 60 kilometres around the lake. Stand-up paddleboarding is possible on Lake Chiemsee, and there are also numerous rental stations and tours along the shores.
