Ebelsbach: Tunnels, Wine Route and Main Valley Views
Accommodation in Ebelsbach
Ebelsbach can be discovered through a variety of themes: the history of the tunnel complex in the Ebelsberg, walking paths along the Ebelsbach stream, the historic vintners’ staircase and views of the Main Valley. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can plan your stay around the experiences you want—from a seasonal guided tour to paths connected with the stream, wine-growing landscapes and local history.

Underground: Tunnels and sparkling wine cellar
The tunnel complex in the Ebelsberg consists of nine tunnels connected by side passages. During the war, production machinery was installed there and trial runs were carried out; however, production never began. Thus, the machinery and trial runs are part of the complex’s history, but production never got underway.
The tunnel complex, including the sparkling wine cellar, can be visited on a guided tour each year from May to August. At the end, there is a snack with a sparkling wine tasting. If you want this tour to be a fixed part of your itinerary, you can plan your travel dates around this recurring annual period.
By the stream, along the old post road and through wine country
The “from castle to castle” walking path runs along the Ebelsbach stream. The “Along the Old Post Road” adventure tour offers a different focus: it starts at the church in Ebelsbach, passes below the old vineyards along the old post road with views of the Main Valley, and returns to Ebelsbach. You can choose between two specific themes: the stream or the old post road with vineyards and valley views.
In Steinbach, a district of Ebelsbach, the historic vintners’ staircase provides an entry point to the Abt-Degen Wine Valley Trail. Steinbach is also home to the Golfclub Haßberge golf course, which has 18 holes.
Local history and views
Ebelsbach Castle is located in the heart of Ebelsbach. Its main building burned down on September 10, 2009, leaving a castle ruin. The Hünenhügel, also called Kirchberg, lies between Gleisenau and Schönbach, above the Main Valley. It is a viewpoint also known as Heiligländerblick. Local history and the landscape thus offer distinct themes: the story of a castle and a named viewpoint overlooking the Main Valley.
Getting there and planning your trip
Ebelsbach can be reached by car or by train via the VGN Ebelsbach/Eltmann station; parking is available in town. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether the seasonal tunnel tour should determine your travel dates, or whether you would rather focus on paths and scenery.
The Haßberge as a regional setting
Beyond Ebelsbach, the Haßberge offer their own regional setting. Haßberge Nature Park is a gently rolling low mountain region with extensive mixed forests, fields, meadows and historic vineyards. The adventure tours in the nature park last half a day or a full day and follow circular routes back to their starting point. The “Castles & Palaces Quality Hiking Trail” lets you experience nature on foot in the German Castle Corner.
A hike through the Abt-Degen Wine Valley can also be combined with Franconian wine at numerous seasonal wine taverns and wine bars. The specific establishments may vary. Thus, the wider Haßberge destination offers regional wine traditions as another distinct focus alongside its landscapes and hiking opportunities.
