Historic Buildings in Betzenstein

Betzenstein’s historic town centre is protected as a listed site. A notable landmark is the Deep Well: its 92-metre-deep shaft was excavated from 1543 to 1549. The well and its well house are fully preserved. The details of its depth and construction period give this historic structure a tangible sense of scale.

The Protestant Lutheran parish church was built in 1735 as a single-nave Baroque church with a choir-tower complex. “Single-nave” describes a church interior with one main nave; the term “choir-tower complex” refers to the tower at the choir.
