Roman times in the local district
An old Roman road ran across the Spechbach district between Lopodunum (Ladenburg) and the Limes at Osterburken, mainly through woodland. Its military use remains a matter of conjecture: the road probably served military infantry.
Archaeological finds also point to the village’s Roman past. A total of two Roman votive stones were found in the local district in 1881 and 1883. Their inscriptions document a Roman settlement named “Vicus Nediensis”. It was probably located by a stream known as the Nida or Nedia.
