Altlußheim brings together hands-on technology, the history of hairdressing and playgrounds. This mix offers different options for planning your day: a place to learn about physics and technology, a museum about how the hairdressing trade has changed, and play facilities around town. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider whether your holiday plans should focus on Altlußheim or also include other places in the Rhein-Neckar district.

Hands-on technology, a changing trade

The TECHNOLOGIE-ARENA at the AUTOVISION Museum Foundation is an out-of-school learning venue that school classes and individual visitors can use, with more than 80 hands-on learning models covering physics and technology. Its tactile format brings these subjects into your travel itinerary through models you can handle. In Altlußheim, alongside a museum visit, you can also choose to focus on practical engagement with questions of technology and physics.

At Schnuteputzer's Hairdressing Museum, master hairdresser Willi Dörr presents the hairdressing trade through the ages. On display are everyday objects and hairdressing supplies from the past 100 years, including various razor blades and soap. The collection also includes rare and valuable items: permanent-wave machines, hair pictures and complete salon interiors dating from 1860 to 2000. The two museums therefore have clearly distinct themes: physics and technology are at the heart of the TECHNOLOGIE-ARENA, while the hairdressing museum focuses on a trade, its equipment and its everyday objects.

Altlußheim has six playgrounds for running around, climbing, exercising, swinging and playing ball. They complement the museums with different opportunities for play and physical activity. Before visiting, check the current availability and condition of the playgrounds.

Fountain and street festival

There is a public drinking-water fountain at the pump track facility near the Rheinfrankenhalle. You can get fresh drinking water there free of charge and refill your own water bottles. As conditions at the facility may change, check whether the fountain is currently available before visiting.

On 4 July 2026, the Altlußheim Street Festival took place at Rathausplatz for the 44th time, as an open-air gathering. Local clubs and the municipal administration organized the festival for residents and numerous guests. The 2026 edition’s stage program offered entertainment for children and adults. The event is another aspect of local life; for planning purposes, it should be understood as a past event.

More places to discover in the Rhein-Neckar district

The Rhein-Neckar district also offers a variety of cultural highlights. The Electoral Palatinate’s Schwetzingen Palace features a Rococo theatre and a world-famous park. Asparagus has been grown in Schwetzingen for around 350 years. In Ladenburg’s historic town center, much of the townscape still reflects the Middle Ages and, in places, Roman times. Parts of the former town wall and defensive towers have been preserved in Wiesloch. These places offer different points of interest for anyone wishing to explore palace and park culture, historic townscapes or remnants of fortifications on day trips.

There are further options for nature and physical activity: Eberbach has 150 kilometers of marked hiking trails. At Waidsee lake in Weinheim, there are areas for paddlers, sailors and windsurfers. At the bathing lake in St. Leon, water skiing and wakeboarding are available on a cable system. The annual “Ab in den Wald” program offers free guided forest walks and excursions throughout the Rhein-Neckar district. The Bergstraße and the eastern part of the Rhein-Neckar district lie within the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park. If you would like to join a guided walk or excursion, check the program’s current dates in advance.

Other interests lead to different destinations in the district: the Hockenheimring in Hockenheim is a popular attraction for motorsport fans, and the Technik Museum Sinsheim exhibits the Concorde. Guided tours of Windeck Castle ruins in Weinheim are available. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first weigh up whether the museums and playgrounds in Altlußheim or trips to other places in the Rhein-Neckar district will play a greater part in your stay. If your itinerary includes destinations in different places, it is worth checking the specific travel distances and dates before booking.
