The E1 European long-distance path comes from the direction of Heidelberg and heads south across the municipal area of Bammental. There are two described cycling routes: the Elsenztal Tour runs from Neckargemünd via Wiesenbach and Bammental to Eppingen. Another signposted route follows the Elsenztal from Neckargemünd via Bammental to Sinsheim. The signposted routes have no major climbs. This makes hiking and cycling distinct options to consider when planning your day. If you are planning a bike ride, check the current route conditions before setting off.
Swimming and exercise at the forest swimming pool
The water facilities at the Bammental forest swimming pool centre on a water playground with water-play equipment and a children’s paddling pool with a slide. There is also an adjoining Kneipp pool and an exercise park with fitness equipment. This allows you to distinguish between different interests: the water-play area and paddling pool are separate facilities, while the Kneipp pool and fitness equipment offer other forms of exercise. The forest swimming pool is therefore a specific local point of reference for your plans, alongside the routes through Bammental.
A glimpse into local history
A striking feature stands in front of the Bammental local history museum: a wallpaper-making machine. It gives the townscape a distinctive cultural accent, without needing to be equated with the hiking or cycling routes. If, in addition to exercise and swimming, you are looking for an object with local significance, you can include this feature in your plans.

Asparagus has been grown in Schwetzingen for approximately 350 years. In Ladenburg’s historic town centre, large parts of the townscape remain medieval in character, with some Roman influences; parts of the former town wall and defensive towers have been preserved in Wiesloch. The Technik Museum Sinsheim displays the Concorde. Guided tours are offered at Windeck Castle ruins in Weinheim. These examples range from architecture and urban history to technology and regional food culture.
You can also choose activities in the Rhein-Neckar district to suit your interests: at the Waidsee lake in Weinheim, there are areas for paddlers, sailors and windsurfers. At the bathing lake in St. Leon, water skiing and wakeboarding are available on a cable system. The Hockenheimring in Hockenheim is a popular attraction for motorsport fans.
