Kaisersbach: Ebnisee, Gorges and Mills

Kaisersbach brings together Ebnisee, protected gorges, mills dating back to the 14th century and Schwaben Park. Water, nature, cultural history and an amusement park therefore offer different options for your holiday. Depending on when you travel and what you are looking for, you can focus your stay on the lakeside landscape, walks, the history of the mills or a day at the amusement park.

Landscape Between Lake and Gorges

Hägelesklinge and Brunnenklinge lie between the Kaisersbach districts of Ebersberg and Täle. Both have been nature reserves since 1969. The gorges thus add a distinct natural landscape and protected-area dimension to Ebnisee.

Ebnisee in Different Seasons

With a water surface of more than six hectares, Ebnisee is the largest lake in the Swabian Forest. It was created in the 18th century for timber rafting in the Welzheimer Forest and is used for swimming. In summer, you can also go pedal boating and rowing. Outside the bathing season, the landscape is ideal for a longer walk around the lake and through the surrounding forest. The focus therefore shifts with the season: in summer, swimming and boating take centre stage; outside the bathing season, a longer walk through the lake and woodland landscape is the main attraction.

There are around 300 paid parking spaces at Ebnisee. Accessible toilets are available at the kiosk by the car park and at the Waldschenke am Ebnisee. Check parking and toilet information on arrival, as capacity and fee conditions may change.

A dedicated event, “Ebnisee for All,” is held annually by the Ebnisee Association on three dates, together with the Swabian-Franconian Forest Nature Park. It includes activities and workshops for people with and without disabilities.

Active Outings and an Amusement Park

Kaisersbach offers walking trails through the Swabian Forest and cycling routes. Another option is Schwaben Park in Kaisersbach. The amusement park caters to the whole family and offers more than 60 attractions. You can choose between nature-based activities and a visit to the amusement park, depending on what matters most to your group.

Mills with History and Technical Details

Menzlesmühle is a watermill dating back to the 14th century. It lies in the eastern part of the municipality of Kaisersbach on the Mill Hiking Trail and has an overshot waterwheel. In this type of mill, water flows onto the wheel from above—a technical detail that adds to the historical context of the mill.

Ebersberger Mühle also dates back to the 14th century. It lies in the Täle valley on the Blinde Rot and has been powered by a turbine since the 1920s. Both mills date from the Middle Ages, but their power systems differ: one has a waterwheel, the other a turbine.

Swimming and boat trips at Ebnisee are associated with summer; outside the bathing season, a longer walk is the main option there. Mills, gorges, walking trails, cycling routes and Schwaben Park appeal to different interests.

A seasonal timetable for the Limesbus Süd (route 375), as described for 2019, provided for services from May until the second-to-last Sunday in October: on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, on the Murrhardt–Waldsee–Kirchenkirnberg–Kaisersbach–Welzheim route and back.
