Löwenstein
Accommodation in Löwenstein
Löwenstein combines medieval buildings with a landscape shaped by Bleichsee lake, a forest clearing and vineyards. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Löwenstein, you can consider what you want to focus on during your holiday: historic places, time by the lake or wine experiences each add a different touch to your stay.
Local history in specific places
The medieval town wall dates from the 14th century. The buildings it encloses include the listed Freihaus, which dates from the same period, and the Old Wine Press, dating from the 15th century. The Manfred Kyber Museum is housed in the Freihaus; since 1993, it has held an archive containing Kyber’s estate. The Old Wine Press has been exemplary renovated.
The Globus sundial in the park of Löwenstein Clinic offers a different combination of design and knowledge. This work of craftsmanship and astronomy is considered a rarity in Germany. It shows the local time as well as the current time in other places around the world. In doing so, it invites visitors to compare different local times and adds a special discovery to the historic buildings.
Bleichsee lake and views
The artificial Bleichsee lake lies on Löwenstein’s former bleaching grounds, on a plateau in a forest clearing in front of Sandberg. A circular path leads around the lake from the hiking car park. Benches invite visitors to linger in the protected landscape area. The circular route and the benches offer different ways to enjoy a visit: you can walk around the lake or pause in one spot. The setting on the plateau and in the forest clearing shapes the character of this place.
Another view of the landscape can be enjoyed from the Löwenstein viewpoint. It is located on the B 39 between Löwenstein and Hirrweiler and offers a view into the valley. If you would like to include the landscape as well as the buildings in your trip, this is a dedicated viewpoint close to your destination.
Wine, tours and festivals
At the “Wine over Hill and Dale” wine event in May, visitors walk through the Löwenstein vineyards from one station to the next. At each stop, they sample wines alongside culinary specialities. The Music and Wine Festival takes place at Weinhaus Löwenstein on the second weekend in August; the programme includes traditional brass-band music, hearty food and wine. Both events combine wine with other experiences, but each has its own focus: one takes visitors through the vineyards, while the other centres on music and socialising at the wine house.
The Löwenstein Autumn Festival takes place in September in even-numbered years and accompanies the Bockrennen race with wine, fine food and entertainment. For a stay that includes an interest in local festivals, the timing of your trip is therefore worth considering. In and around Löwenstein, visitors can also join castle and town tours, themed experience tours and Löwenstein mountain tours. These different formats offer various ways to discover the town’s history and surrounding area.
Guided wine experience tours share information about wine and include tastings. They are available for groups, as public tours and on request. You can choose a holiday apartment in Löwenstein to suit the themes you want to shape your stay.
