Riverie is a medieval village. In the Middle Ages, it occupied a fortified position and was the former feudal lordship of a powerful barony.

History

The history of the village includes the Church of Saint Paul, known for its westward orientation, and the Château de Riverie, which was rebuilt between 1595 and 1605 in the form known today. The former hospice of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem is now known as La Picoraille.

Since 2017, the village of Riverie has held the “Petite Cité de Caractère” distinction.

Culture

The Patatr’Art Micro Gallery in Riverie presents changing exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture and crafts on weekends. In addition, the municipality of Riverie stages a performance by the Théâtre du Piat every year in February or March.

The medieval festival Les Rivériades takes place on the last Sunday in June every odd-numbered year. It includes street theatre and various events featuring historical costumes, craft stalls and other traditional entertainment.

“Les Rêveries du Grand Quinson” is an interactive treasure hunt through Riverie’s medieval lanes. Participants follow Grand Quinson to track down and capture Graal, the great leader of the Gnolus.
