During the Hundred Years' War, the inhabitants of Messimy built a defensive wall with towers around the town center: the Vingtain.

Culture

A double-vaulted gate remains from the fortified complex of the Vingtain. The surviving Romanesque section of the Église Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste dates from the 9th to the 12th century and forms the original church of the village. This Romanesque section contains a stone barrel vault.

The Église Saint-Jean-l'Évangéliste can be visited individually and free of charge every day throughout the year.

Nature

The Table d'orientation in Messimy offers views of Lyon and the Alps and is open year-round.

The Circuit de Piragoy leads through meadows and forests to a viewpoint with impressive views of Messimy; in good weather, visibility extends as far as the Alps. The Circuit de Piragoy is marked with PDIPR signage consisting of wooden posts and yellow directional signs.

Walking Routes

The Circuit Randoland route is approximately 5 km long and combines discovering the village with a walk through orchards. The Circuit Randoland Messimy is a treasure hunt that combines discovering the municipality's cultural heritage with a walk through the forest. The Circuit Randoland Messimy is open every day throughout the year.
