Getting There
L’Arbresle is served by TER line no. 6 toward Roanne and Lyon-Part-Dieu, as well as by TER line no. 22, known as the “tram-train,” toward Lyon Saint-Paul. The municipality also has direct access via exit no. 36 of the A 89 motorway (Bordeaux–Lyon).
Culture
In the 19th century, L’Arbresle developed from a village that was still strongly agricultural in character into a small industrial town specializing in weaving silk velvet. The Espace Découverte du Pays de L’Arbresle features a permanent scenographic exhibition on the heritage of the Pays de L’Arbresle, as well as temporary exhibitions. It is also home to the Atelier-musée du tissage, with weaving equipment, eyewitness accounts, and films.
The parish church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in L’Arbresle was built in the 15th century and expanded in the 19th century. A guided tour with commentary covers the architecture and history of the building, its furnishings and statues, as well as the iconography of the stained-glass windows from the 15th and 19th centuries. The “L'Arbresle médiévale et Renaissance” tour lasts two hours.
As part of the tour of the eight Gothic churches in the Pays Lyonnais, visitors are welcomed at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church on the third Sunday of each month from Easter to All Saints’ Day. The church also contains a figurative stained-glass window (Bay 1) depicting Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Bartholomew.
