Culture and History
The Église Saint Blaise has Romanesque origins dating back to the 10th century and was extensively remodelled in 1520 by Béatrix de Bron and her husband René de Rougemont. The piscina in the seigneurial chapel of the Église Saint Blaise is partially listed as a historic monument; the listing was made by decree dated 2 February 1982.
The Château de Chassagny probably dates back to the 12th century. The castle at that time was destroyed by the Baron des Adrets in 1561 and rebuilt in 1570, while retaining the square keep. The Château de Chassagny is privately owned and cannot be visited.
The Château de la Vaure takes its name from Hugues de la Vaure, a royal notary in 1362. The fief of Château de la Vaure is surrounded by several ponds; its stone defensive wall was built by Gaspard Charmier in 1615. In La Charbonnerie, a stone cattle trough is fed directly by well water; it is thought to date from around 1670.
The footbridge crossing the Mornantet bears the date 1864 and received the Conseil Général du Rhône's heritage conservation award in 1996.
Nature and Trails
Chassagny is part of the Espace naturel sensible du Plateau mornantais. The Plateau mornantais comprises heathland, dry grassland, rock outcrops, wet meadows, natural meadows and several ponds. The Espace naturel sensible is open to the public and has several hiking trails.
Chassagny offers panoramic views of the Plateau de Montagny, dominated by a medieval village centre. Walks in the Bois de Montrond and the gorges of the Mornantet are considered particularly recommended.
The hiking trails in Chassagny begin at an information board in the car park near the Salle des fêtes des Varennes. There is a picnic area near the Salle des fêtes des Varennes.

Since the heavy rainfall in October 2024, the section south of Chassagny on the Circuit VTT 231 has only been passable to a limited extent; one of the bridges over the Mornantet is also missing there.
