In Vernoux-en-Vivarais, historic buildings, geological features and various leisure destinations stand side by side. The Château de Vaussèche dates back to the 11th century; its main construction phases took place in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Nature and leisure
The Géosite du Bois du Four is a sedimentological geosite with sandstone, limestone, and fossils of shells, snails and some crinoid fragments. The site contains Hettangian limestone dating from 203 to 200 million years ago. It formed when the Ardèche was covered by the sea during the Lower and Middle Jurassic. Individual, self-guided visits to the Géosite du Bois du Four are possible at any time.
Lac aux Ramiers is an artificial lake and an attractive leisure area. It has a beach with a shower. The leisure centre at Lac aux Ramiers in Vernoux-en-Vivarais is connected to Savage WakePark; Savage WakePark offers towed water sports.
Active pursuits
The cycling loop “De la Dolce Via au plateau de Vernoux” leads to Vernoux-en-Vivarais. It is 52.0 kilometres long, moderately difficult, marked in red, and has a stated duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes. The Circuit de Lodie is an easy circular hike covering 6.3 kilometres, with 149 metres of ascent and descent respectively, and a stated duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It passes through part of the Ève valley; the Plateau de Vernoux can be seen from the Circuit de Lodie.
