Culture and History

The Protestant temple of Saint-Christol is a former Romanesque church dating from the 13th century. At the same time, it is closely connected with the history of Protestantism and the Wars of Religion in the Talaron Valley.

The Pont du Fau is one of 15 bridges that were built or renovated in 1691 during the construction or renewal of the royal road from Privas to Saint-Agrève. This road is now called the Route des Dragonnades.

The Route des Dragonnades can be travelled from Privas to Le Cheylard on foot, by mountain bike, by car or by bicycle via a suitable route.

Trails and Landscapes

The Chemin des 5 sens – No. 16 incorporates paintings, mirrors, totems and hanging artworks into the landscape. It runs along the Talaron Valley and then along the Faveyroles stream.

The Trail de Nono starts and ends at Saint-Christol town hall and is an 11 km route with 448 metres of elevation gain. Its return route runs along the Talaron River. The trail passes small heritage sites such as washhouses, irrigation canals, mills, cultivated terraces, farms and hamlets.

The route to the Col des Pizes starts at Saint-Christol town hall, leads over forest paths to the pass and returns to the village along the river.

Further Trails

The Val’Eyrieux mountain biking area offers 436 km of mountain bike trails and 126 km of Tour-de-Pays routes; some of these routes pass through Saint-Christol.

The Sentier du Talaron is 20 km long and offers changing landscapes in the heart of the Boutières, between the uplands and the Ardèche foothills.
