Lanarce is situated in the uplands on the edge of the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Nature Park. Those who choose Lanarce as their destination do so with the desire to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature
The Espezonnette is Lanarce’s most important body of water and is rich in wild trout. It flows through the village of Lanarce; trout fishing is possible along the river, and natural pools near Lanarce are suitable for swimming.
The Sagne Redonde peat bog lies at the bottom of the crater of a former volcano. It contributes to the preservation of water resources; sundews and bog sedge grow there, two plants protected at national level.
Activities
Le Ginestet is a difficult, 13.0-kilometre circular hike starting and ending in Lanarce. The route can be reached via the RN 102 or the D 108; parking in the village centre is recommended. The Le Ginestet–Lanarce route is associated with the ENS “Tourbières et ruisseaux à loutres du plateau de Coucouron”.
The “La montagne Ardéchoise” horse-riding route passes through Lanarce.
Culture
Guided tours are offered at the Moulin de Trespis, explaining how the watermill operates and how it was restored. A visit there also includes a museum containing old objects.
The Auberge de Peyrebeille invites visitors to enter the historic 19th-century building. It is associated with crimes committed there from 1807 to 1833; the history of the house includes the execution of Pierre Martin, his wife Marie Breysse and their servant Jean Rochette on 2 October 1833.
Local life
Lanarce has butcher shops and charcuteries known for their mountain cured meats. Ferme Sagne Rousseyre also offers products from local producers, including fruit juices, jams, tea and goat’s-milk soaps. Ferme Sagne Rousseyre sells goat’s cheese from Sandra and Valentin, produced using organic farming methods and bearing the AOC-Picodon designation.
