Velleron is a stage of the Via Venaissia, a cycle route connecting the ViaRhôna with the cycle route to the Mediterranean. Anyone choosing Velleron as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.

Cycle Route and Market

The Velleron section of the Via Venaissia begins at the Chemin de l’ancienne voie and runs for 4.5 kilometres to Pernes-les-Fontaines.

Velleron’s farmers’ market takes place daily from April, except on Sundays and public holidays; from October, it is open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. At the farmers’ market, local farmers sell their produce directly, without intermediaries.

Water and Landscape

The Sorgue in Velleron is a first-category river; its water temperature remains constant at 13 °C. The shaded banks of the Sorgue near the Pont de Pichichi are suitable for picnics.

Several dry-stone bories stand on the heights of Velleron along hiking trails; they formerly served as shelters for shepherds and their flocks. The A04 “La Parisienne” walking trail is designated in Velleron as a remarkable area at the foothills of the Monts de Vaucluse.

History and Culture

The Château de Crillon was built in the 16th century on the foundations of an earlier castle and now houses Velleron Town Hall. The Château de Cambis is a Renaissance château built in the 17th century and now serves as a venue for numerous cultural events.

The Festival de la Sorgue offers free theatre and music performances for all age groups every July. Le Carbet Amazonien offers a 500 m² tropical environment with a wide variety of plants and exotic butterflies.

Agriculture and Farm Produce

Strawberries and melons are grown in Velleron’s fertile agricultural landscape; Velleron is known for the quality of the produce sold at its daily farmers’ market.

The Bergerie Velleronnaise welcomes visitors and offers farm products such as cheese, yoghurt, brousse, faisselles, hard cheese, cream and butter.
