Lafare: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Lafare is an elevated village at the foot of a hill in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail. To the north and west, wooded hills rise towards the ridges of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Dentelles Sarrasines and the cliffs of La Salle. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Lafare will have the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Cascade Saint-Christophe and paths through vineyards and pine forests in view.

Nature

The ZNIEFF Les Dentelles covers the municipality of Lafare and extends over 384.8 hectares. Near Lafare, the Les Dentelles nature area features black Oxfordian marl, rock faces, rock ledges and steep scree gullies. Eight particularly protected animal species live there, including one of the rare breeding pairs of Egyptian vultures outside the Luberon and the Vaucluse Mountains.

The Cascade Saint-Christophe is one of the few waterfalls in the Vaucluse department and flows between two rock faces in a well-known climbing area. A footpath leads to the Cascade Saint-Christophe in about five minutes.

Culture

The Saint-Christophe Chapel in Lafare measures 12.30 metres in length and 4.90 metres in width externally; its simple stone altar has been preserved. Saint-Sixte Church has a painted ceiling in the sacristy. It also houses two polychrome wooden statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint Christopher, as well as an 18th-century painting depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Christopher and Saint Roch.

Activities

The Rocher Saint-Christophe climbing sector in Lafare reaches a maximum height of 70 metres, faces west and offers routes graded from 3b to 8b. The sporty 17-kilometre Tour des Dentelles de Montmirail loop can begin in Lafare.

The GR de Pays Tour des Dentelles de Montmirail is a multi-day hiking route that can be completed in three or six days, depending on the itinerary. Lafare is also a starting point for numerous hikes and climbing areas in the Dentelles de Montmirail massif; the paths lead through vineyards and pine forests.

Wine

At Domaine de Cassan in Lafare, a vineyard walk with tasting, an aperitif basket and bottles is offered in the vineyards of Beaumes-de-Venise and Gigondas. The walk lasts one hour and is intended for groups of two to twelve people. The Domaine de Cassan walk with tasting must be booked five days in advance.
