Culture and History

Two of the Dolmens of Artron are still visible today. The surviving structures have elongated, rectangular burial chambers accessible via a laterally offset entrance passage.

Another historical landmark is the Cité Pluvillière. It is a rural workers’ settlement founded in 1873 on the initiative of Joseph Blondet de Pluvillière.

The Église Saint-Pierre d’Usson was built between the late 11th and early 12th centuries and extended in the 15th century. Its western façade retains Romanesque stonework, including a Crucifixion scene and capitals decorated with lions and griffins.

Inside, the church preserves Neoclassical furnishings from the 17th and 18th centuries. These include a gilded wooden tabernacle and polychrome wooden statues.

There is also a free motorhome service area at the Pré des Isles car park on the Route de Civray.

Hiking

The “Usson-du-Poitou au fil du temps” route is a very easy circular hike of approximately 2.1 kilometres, lasting about one hour. It starts and ends at the du Prieuré car park.
