Culture and History
The historic buildings include the residence known as the Logis des Foucault, which was placed under protection by a decree dated 15 December 1928. The parish church of Saint-Martin was rebuilt in 1905 beside an earlier church under the direction of the architect Alcide Boutaud, who came from Poitiers. Its single-nave layout has a round-arched barrel vault and a calotte.
The historic parish structure of Sepvret emerged from the two former parishes of Sepvret and La Barre. Around 1769, services for the parish of La Barre were moved to the church in Sepvret. The Logis de Brégion is a manor house in Sepvret built in the 15th century. The Brégion dovecote was also built in the 15th century; it has 2,200 nesting places.
The former Saint-Martin church has become a cultural hall. Cultural events such as concerts, exhibitions and conferences are intended to be held there. The background is decorated with natural lilies and a star.
Nature and Trails
The Grand-Fontaines are considered the source of the Sèvre Niortaise. The paths in Sepvret lead through the green valley of the Sèvre Niortaise, which is rich in numerous springs and waterways. The upstream section of this valley between the Grand-Fontaines and the Pont de Sepvret has been recognized by the Deux-Sèvres department as a “Sensitive Natural Area”.
Several signposted routes start at notable points in the town: the 8 km “Sentier des sources et des lavoirs” hiking trail begins at the Grand-Fontaines or at the town hall. The 5.5 km “Chemin de Foucault” hiking trail begins in Brégion.
Pilgrimage
Sepvret is a stage on the 42.3 km section of the Via Turonensis between Chenay and Villefollet, designed to be completed over two days.
