Historically, the Pont de Pallu was used by mules travelling to numerous mills; grain was taken to La Rochelle and salt transported back.

The “Sur les pas d’Edmond Proust” walking trail is dedicated to the history of the local resistance. Edmond Proust hid at the Logis de la Bidolière on 18 February 1944 after narrowly escaping arrest.
A path leads to the Fontaine et Lavoir des Genêts, where a spring channels water into the washbasin; the well-maintained grounds have benches. The Fontaine de Putais has been restored and supplemented with a small rest area for walkers.

Saint-Martin-de-Saint-Maixent is located on the Sèvre Niortaise and the Ruisseau de Rochetan.
The “Les chemins creux” educational trail provides information about the local flora and fauna through panels designed by pupils from the Émile-Naslin school.

The Aire de loisirs du Vallon has a signposted fitness trail with around ten obstacles for users aged seven and over, and includes a children’s playground.
