Rouperroux-le-Coquet was mentioned in the 7th century as “rivus petrosus”.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Rouperroux-le-Coquet has the village itself in mind as a travel destination.

History and Townscape

In 1747–1748, the village of Rouperroux-le-Coquet had a loosely arranged settlement pattern with around 30 buildings. Around 20 of these, predominantly ecclesiastical and manorial buildings, were located in the first settlement ring around the 11th-century parish church. Most of the houses examined in the village consist of plastered masonry.

Roads and Structures

The ancient road from Le Mans to Évreux ran through Rouperroux-le-Coquet along the Rue Principale towards Guémansais. The three Guémansais bridges date from the 18th century. The Guémansais bridge is approximately 18 metres long and 12 metres wide, built from sandstone blocks and fitted with three semicircular barrel-vault arches.

The Sarthe tram line connected to the Ecoubeaux bridge operated from 1898 to 1947. The Ecoubeaux tram bridge was commissioned in 1896 to facilitate access to a farm and the adjoining land.

Culture

The Church of Saint Mamert is attributed to the 11th or 13th century and is located on the D301 in Rouperroux-le-Coquet. A niche discovered during restoration work on the church in 2001 houses a statue of Saint Mamert.

The capitals of the nave are decorated with ornamental motifs characteristic of the Renaissance. Many of the renewed stained-glass windows in the Church of Saint Mamert were created by Fialeix, a glassmaker from Sarthe active in the 19th century. A pilgrimage route held annually historically connected Courcival and Rouperroux-le-Coquet.
