Culture and History
The Église Notre-Dame des Marais has been classified as a historic monument since 1840. A guided tour on the tourist train provides an opportunity to discover the cultural heritage between this church and La Ferté-Bernard’s medieval town gate. The Porte Saint-Julien is a relic of the medieval fortifications dating from the 14th century.
The former château of La Ferté-Bernard includes an old chapel and its oratory, dating from the first half of the 15th century. The surviving architectural elements of the former castle and its enclosure were listed as historic monuments by decree of 13 May 1992. The Chapelle Saint-Lyphard was built in the 12th century by the Lords Bernard of La Ferté; the town acquired it in 1980 and subsequently restored it for use as an exhibition venue. The Halles Denis Béalet date from the 15th century.
Walks and Nature
The “de faubourgs en quartiers” discovery trail is an 8.35 km urban walking route marked in yellow, with an estimated walking time of around two hours. It presents La Ferté-Bernard from its old suburbs to the districts and facilities that illustrate the town’s development since the second half of the 20th century.

The Espace Naturel Sensible des Ajeux is an area of remarkable biodiversity. The path there runs all the way around the pond and offers the opportunity to discover the local flora and fauna. The area is partially accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Markets and Events
La Ferté-Bernard hosts three weekly markets. A farmers’ market is also held on the Place du Général de Gaulle.
Les 3 Jours traditionally takes place on the first weekend of September and combines an exhibition with an agricultural show. Through exhibitions and competitions, the agricultural show offers the opportunity to see various farm animals up close. At the exhibition, almost 200 participants showcase their expertise and products, including local craftspeople and producers.
