Courcelles-la-Forêt is a village with bocage landscape and woodland. The village centre lies at the edge of the forest. Of the municipality’s total area of 1,900 hectares, 900 hectares are wooded.

Culture and History

There are three castles in the area around Courcelles-la-Forêt: Château de Malicorne-sur-Sarthe, Château des Carmes and Château de la Suze-sur-Sarthe. Further afield in the region is Château de Baugé, also a castle.

The Église Saint-Jean was built in the Romanesque style in the 12th century and has a square tower. It houses a 17th-century painting depicting Christ carrying his cross and Saint Veronica. The 16th-century tomb attached to the Église Saint-Jean is the reason why the church has been entered in the heritage register.

The Lavoir du Perray is located on the Ribourg stream and was donated to the municipality of Courcelles-la-Forêt in 1852. The washhouse was restored in 2022; the use of bricks and slate preserved the features of the former washhouse.
