At the site of La Motte, a well-preserved medieval motte and the ditches surrounding it have been preserved. Next to the motte is a partially buried primitive chapel, whose stone vault is still visible. The megalith “La pierre potelée” was given its name because of its heavily weathered appearance.
On the Lande des Soucis stand the menhirs known as “La mère et la fille”. They are the remains of a larger complex that has since disappeared; four stones remain, three of which are aligned. Nature and Trails
Le Palet de Gargantua is a table-shaped stone that probably belonged to a dolmen, projects over a small watercourse and serves as a ford. The Rando’clim trail begins at the arboretum and follows the botanical educational trail for 4.5 kilometres. It includes ten tree stations from five tree species, marked with information boards; hikers can use QR codes to contribute observations about the trees’ developmental stages.
The easy, 10.0-kilometre PR hiking trail “Le château de Gallerande” leads through the forests of the Château de Gallerande. From there, it offers a remarkable view of the Loire Valley.
Water and Classification
A day permit is required for fishing at the Plan d’eau in Saint-Jean-de-la-Motte; it is issued on site. The D323 is an important road providing access to Saint-Jean-de-la-Motte.
