The present-day Notre-Dame Church in La Bazoge was extended in the 14th and 15th centuries with a choir and a transept.
Culture and History
The Croix de Villée is the oldest of the 17 crosses and calvaries in La Bazoge. The massive, asymmetrical Latin cross from the Middle Ages marked the turn-off at a crossroads towards the village of La Bazoge or the present-day hamlet of Mortier.
A typical 18th-century weaver’s house stands today at 3 rue du Puits. The former tramway bridge is also part of the area’s history: it is a remnant of the narrow-gauge local railway that served La Bazoge from 14 August 1915 to 3 October 1943.
Near the town centre is L’Envol, a cultural centre that opened in 2013. Cultural events, performances and film screenings are held there.
Trails and Water
The 12 km “Les Forges” trail route is officially certified in Sarthe and is connected with La Bazoge. It follows technically demanding paths on climbs and on certain descents; the surface is stony in places.
You can go for a walk along the banks of the plan d’eau de Beaumanoir in La Bazoge.
