Getting Around
The Le Bac à Chaînes chain ferry allows pedestrians to cross the Sarthe at the hamlet of Le Val, between Saint-Pierre-des-Nids and Saint-Léonard-des-Bois. From 1 May to 30 September, Le Bac à Chaînes is accessible to people with reduced mobility, pedestrians and bicycles. Depending on navigation conditions, it may be temporarily closed or removed.
Culture and History
The Moulin de Trotté appears to date from the 16th century. Farmers from the surrounding area came there to have wheat, rye, barley and buckwheat milled.
The Château du Plessis-Bochard is listed as a historic monument; the protected complex comprises the residential building, chapel and outbuildings, including the stable and bakery. The menhir “La Pierre au Diable” was classified as a historic monument on 20 January 1978.
The Jardin du Manoir du Plessis Bochard can be visited by groups and individuals by prior arrangement.
Local Life
Saint-Pierre-des-Nids' summer night markets will take place every Friday from July to September 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The first market is scheduled for 10 July and the last for 25 September 2026. Tourists can buy local produce there.
